Welcome to my new blog!
I am a wheelchair user, provider of travel information to disabled people and travel writer. I am passionate about promoting accessible tourism to disabled people, and showing people that have perhaps lost confidence because of their disability that travel can be made easier with the right information.
I’ve run Tourism for All's operations from offices in Kendal, the Lake District, since 2005. Myself a lover of travel, I've never let being a wheelchair user stop me enjoying new places and experiences.
Holidays, days out and new experiences remind us of what we are capable of, and give us a reset to deal with the challenges of life. Accessibility has come a long way in my lifetime but we can never have enough accessible places to visit/travel and to encourage more we have to share our own experiences, celebrate the positives and show all businesses how access is done right.
And that's why I'm committing to this new blog!
Last year I was exhibiting at the Mobility Roadshow, and a lady came to our stand who’s dream was to return to Rome. She’d recently become wheelchair user, and thought that a holiday to an ancient city would be impossible, until she read my Disability Horizons article about my trip to Rome in 2015. I could have burst with pride when she told me she’d be booking her holiday straight away!
The most powerful thing a person can do, is to change another person's mind set. If I can do that in any small way, by writing here and elsewhere, I'll be very happy.
